MICHAEL IBBESON

Michael is a Chartered Civil Engineer with twenty five years experience in building structures, infrastructure, civil and ground engineering. Michael is our Chief Executive Officer, responsible for delivering the vision of the business – to be the engineering consultant and employer of choice.

Michael started his career with Trafalgar House (now Skanska) working on major PFI infrastructure projects, before spending time at John Newton & Partners to learn how a regional consultancy operates. In 2004 he jointly founded Structa to provide local consultancy levels of customer service allied with major company resources and capability.

Michael specialises in the redevelopment of brownfield sites with a focus on managing risk and extracting maximum value by the effective combination of geotechnical, contamination, ground and highway engineering, together with flood risk, drainage, SuDS and foundation engineering to develop holistic economic engineering solutions.

Bellway Homes

Project Director with overall responsibility for the civil and structural design of a 5 and 8-storeys mixed-use development comprising 124 apartments, a nursery and commercial office space. Built under a design and build agreement with consultants novated to Graham Construction.

Thames Street, Oxford
A2 Dominion

Project Director for a new build 5-storey student accommodation block with 82 rooms and 3 separate apartment blocks ranging from 5 to 6-storeys providing 42 homes. The buildings were designed using an off-site manufactured closed panel system for which Structa are the retained consultant for the UK.

South Side, Wimbledon
Lifestyle Projects

Project Manager for the structural and civil engineering of a luxury apartment building which incorporates a 2-storey basement for parking and lower ground floor accommodation. Constructed from water resisting reinforced concrete below ground, the superstructure was formed using traditional load bearing masonry and precast flooring with horizontal and vertical ties to satisfy the building regulations requirement for resistance to disproportionate collapse.

HMP Kilmarnock*

Project Engineer responsible for the civil and structural engineering design for a new private prison facility comprising 500 cells and supporting amenity space. The superstructure of the buildings and perimeter wall were constructed using the CV Buchan pre-cast concrete system.
