Abbotswood Park is a development of 425 properties with a mix of 3, 4 and 5 bedroom homes together with 25,000 sq.ft of office and retail space.
The development site was part of the former Leavesden Aerodrome, and was home to the factory that built the Mosquito Bombers during World War II, and was later owned by Rolls Royce. The groundworks design therefore had to take account of the sites former use; potential for underground structures, foundations and contamination.
Structa were commissioned to support the reserved matters application, dealing with drainage strategy and access proposals. Following the successful application, we continued to provide civil and structural detailed design of the new homes and office/retail space through to completion. The detailed design included, complete main infrastructure packages, S38, S104 and phased S278 agreements for six new road junctions including signal controlled junctions and toucan crossings. A portion of the site was sold to Bovis Homes for separate development, with the main infrastructure provided by Structa. The drainage design included large areas of storm water attenuation to reduce discharge from the site, minimising flood risk.
